NRM Gave Us Empty Promises!! Family Of Youth Who Set Himself Ablaze At Parliament Speaks Out After His Death

The family of Benjamin Agaba, a loyal supporter of Uganda’s National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, is heartbroken and struggling after his tragic death.
Agaba, who set himself on fire near Parliament last month, passed away at Kiruddu Hospital in Kampala City. His family is now left to deal with not only their grief but also the broken promises made by NRM officials who had pledged to help them.
Agaba’s self-immolation was a desperate act to draw attention to his struggles. He claimed the ruling NRM party had neglected him and accused Opposition supporters of destroying his property, leaving his family homeless. Despite his loyalty to the NRM, his cries for help were ignored.
His father, Benjamin Twinomugisha, shared the family’s pain. He revealed that many NRM officials had promised financial help to cover medical bills and address Agaba’s grievances.
However, these promises were never fulfilled. “They came, made promises in front of the media, and then disappeared,” Twinomugisha said. The family was left to struggle alone, paying hospital bills with the little money they could gather.
Even after Agaba’s death, the family faces more challenges. The hospital requires 1.3 million shillings to transport his body to Mulago Hospital for a post-mortem. The family cannot afford this amount and has been forced to return to their village without his body.
Agaba’s widow expressed their helplessness, saying, “We have tried everything but failed. We thought those who promised to help would come through, but they have all disappeared.”
Agaba’s family is now left to mourn their loss while dealing with financial burdens and broken promises. His story is a sad reminder of the need for accountability and compassion from those in power.
May Benjamin Agaba rest in peace, and may his family find the strength to overcome this difficult time.
