“You Just Want US Aid” Ugandans React As Gen Muhoozi Vows To Remove Homosecxuality Act Banned by President Museveni

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced plans to repeal the Anti-Homosexuality Act by 2026. He stated that while homosexuality is often considered an illness, those affected are creations of God and should be treated with compassion. “In 2026, we shall remove this Anti-Homosexuality Act. They are sick people, but since the Creator made them… what do we do? Even kiboko (caning) might not work. We shall pray for them,” Muhoozi remarked.
His comments have stirred a wave of reactions among Ugandans, many of whom took to social media to express their views. Several citizens questioned how Muhoozi’s stance aligns with his father, President Yoweri Museveni, who has been a staunch supporter of the legislation.
Among the responses, some were critical of Muhoozi’s position. Katana commented, “Baalam could potentially serve as their advocate, but he should be monitored carefully. He might side with them instead of fulfilling his actual responsibilities toward the appropriate gender.” Another commenter, Kawooya Frank, asked, “What is wrong with you, sir? You’ve been posting about the country’s motto, and now this? In your understanding, does God endorse homosexuality, or are you seeking aid from the USA and Europe?”
Others offered a different interpretation of Muhoozi’s remarks. Lincoln K stated, “Some people are misinterpreting the General’s statement. Simply put, he plans to allow them to live without restrictions.”
The debate surrounding Muhoozi’s remarks continues to grow, with many Ugandans eager to see whether this reflects an impending shift in government policy or remains a personal viewpoint.
