Exclusive!! Former Makerere Guild President Narrates How Vice Chancellor Nawangwe’s P.A Gordon Murangira Plotted To Burn Mitchell Hall, Pinned An Innocent Student , Tried Killing Him Several Times
In October 2019, a then fourth-year student at Makerere University was apprehended for allegedly scheming to set fire to Mitchell Hall.
The Late Polly Bandola who died last year , was by then a Bachelor of Medicine student, also faced accusations of threatening Frank Mugwizi, the hall’s warden, purportedly after being instructed to vacate his room due to accumulating three retakes.
University policy dictates that once a government-sponsored student accrues three retakes, they must leave the residence hall.Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, reported that the warden alerted the police of the incident on Monday. Upon searching the student’s room, authorities discovered a petrol jerrycan, shisha concoctions, and an unconscious female, suspected of being sexually assaulted due to used condoms found in the room. The girl was promptly taken to the hospital.
Onyango added that the student in question was allegedly “misbehaving,” leading to his forceful eviction. This former student leader had been vocal in protesting the university’s decision to hike tuition fees.
FORMER MAK GUILD PRESIDENT LEAKS SECRETS
However, four years later, former Guild President Papa Were Salim disclosed that the plot to burn Mitchell Hall was orchestrated not by Bandola, but by the Personal Assistant to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Barnabas Nawangwe.
“It’s common knowledge that Bandola wasn’t in Mitchell Hall when the incident occurred. While he was in custody, Nawangwe’s PA took a petrol jerrycan and used condoms, broke into Bandola’s room, and invited journalists to take photos, falsely claiming Bandola was planning the arson. The boy was arrested, tortured, and until his death last year, the police never presented any evidence against him,” Papa Were stated in a Twitter Space On Wednesday This Week.
It’s important to note that the committee led by Bandola, then a fourth-year Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery student, chaired the students’ committee. Bandola mentioned visiting various universities for comparative studies, including the University of Nairobi, University of Rwanda, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Gulu University, and Uganda Christian University – Mukono.
According to Bandola, student leaders reached a consensus after reviewing university financial documents and the visitation committee recommendations regarding fee issues.
In a Twitter Space discussion today, Papa further emphasized that Bandola’s involvement in the committee haunted him, and he narrowly escaped death several times before his mysterious demise last year. Papa suggested that Bandola’s death could have been linked to the administration he interacted with.
Gordon Murangira, a shadowy figure within Makerere University’s administration, wields immense power, suppressing dissent and stifling student voices. Despite his role as the personal assistant to Professor Barnabas Nawangwe, his actions demonstrate a propensity for intimidation and instilling fear.
Accusations of rights violations and student suspensions swirl around Murangira, portraying him as someone who thrives on oppression. Behind closed doors, he orchestrates the arrests of those advocating for better services, crushing opposition with efficiency.
As students demand justice, Murangira remains a looming symbol of unchecked authority and oppression. Yet, as their voices grow louder, the truth about his tyrannical reign may soon be exposed.
