Makerere 74th Graduation!! Opposition Bigwigs Scoop Degrees In Different Sectors

A multitude of opposition figures have earned degrees at the ongoing 74th graduation ceremony at Makerere University. This year, a total of 12,913 graduates will receive degrees and diplomas from the country’s leading education institution.
Of these, 132 are graduating with PhDs, 1,585 with master’s, 11,016 with bachelor’s, 156 with postgraduate diplomas, and 24 with undergraduate diplomas. What has drawn attention, however, is the significant presence of political leaders and activists from the opposition among the graduates.
Among them is the National Unity Platform’s Head of Mobilization, Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, who obtained a Master’s Degree in Peace and Conflict.Nyanzi is the elder brother of NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), who attended the graduation event in person at Makerere University.
Another prominent opposition leader graduating this year is Forum for Democratic Change’s Doreen Nyanjura, who received a Master’s in Gender Studies. The Deputy Lord Mayor of Kampala City stated that she chose this course due to the gender bias and stereotypes she faced when appointed to the top city position, being both the youngest and unmarried.
“I am a strong advocate for education. This is just the beginning for me. It is possible to balance work, family, activism, studies, and graduate on time as long as there is determination,” she remarked.
Shamim Nambassa, another NUP activist, also graduated from Makerere this week. Nambassa previously served as the 87th Guild President at Makerere under the NUP flag. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy. In celebration of this achievement, she took to social media to proclaim herself the next Health Minister under the Bobi Wine Government.
Another noteworthy individual to graduate this year is Ruth Kirabo Nyeko, the wife of Honorable Derreck Nyeko, the NUP Member of Parliament for Makindye East. Kirabo obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
