Mpuuga Remanded To Luzira For Soliciting Shs 20 Million Bribe From Job Applicant

Corruption in Uganda’s Public Service: Rakai District Service Commission Chairperson ChargedIn a significant move to curb corruption, Rakai District Service Commission Chairperson, Mr. Mpuuga David, has been charged with three counts of corruption after soliciting and receiving UGX 20 million from a job applicant.
Mpuuga allegedly manipulated the candidate to secure the payment in exchange for favoring him for the Agricultural Officer position in Rakai District ¹.The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) arrested Mpuuga following public complaints to the RDC Rakai about his consistent demands for bribes for each available vacancy.
He has been remanded until October 14, 2024.This development highlights the SH-ACU’s efforts to combat corruption in Uganda’s public service. Established under Article 99(4) of the Ugandan Constitution, the unit operates under the President’s executive powers to perform duties directly or through subordinate officers.
The SH-ACU’s mission is to be the catalyst and accelerator of the anti-corruption fight through receiving, scrutinizing, and coordinating corruption complaints .
