From Near Defeat to First Class!! My Journey as a Medical Student
My name is Brian Kato, and I come from Fort Portal, Uganda. Ever since I was a child, I had one goal: to become a doctor. I consistently ranked among the top students in my class, and when I finally gained admission to study medicine at one of Uganda’s top universities, I felt my dream was finally within reach. But the path ahead was anything but easy. There were moments I nearly gave up entirely. What happened afterward changed my life in ways I never imagined.
The first two years of university went relatively smoothly. I worked hard and managed to pass my exams. But everything changed in my third year. I could spend hours studying and still fail simple tests. I started forgetting things I once knew by heart. Sometimes, I would enter an exam room and my mind would go completely blank. My lecturers began to question whether I truly belonged in medical school. My classmates started to distance themselves, and I became the subject of jokes.
