0″He Was Punished Just For Insisting To Do His Job” Bobi Wine Breaks His Silence Regarding Eron Kizza’s Arrest

National Unity Platform (NUP) President Bobi Wine has strongly condemned the nine-month prison sentence given to Kiiza Eron, a lawyer who represents opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye. Eron was sentenced for contempt of court after he insisted on performing his professional duty by demanding access to a military tribunal where Besigye is facing trial.
In his statement on X, Bobi Wine described the sentencing as deeply unfortunate, emphasizing that Eron’s only crime was advocating for his right to represent his clients. He pointed out that the military had blocked Eron from accessing the court, and when Eron persisted, he was punished.
Bobi Wine further highlighted that Eron had been vocal in challenging the actions of the military tribunal, which he deemed unconstitutional. According to Bobi Wine, Eron’s criticism of what he described as the court’s criminality was the primary reason behind the harsh sentence. The NUP leader used the incident to draw attention to the worsening political climate in Uganda, where political opponents and legal professionals are increasingly facing repression.
As the situation continues to deteriorate, Bobi Wine urged the people of Uganda to unite and work together, using all possible means to bring an end to the current state of affairs. He called for collective resistance against the growing authoritarianism under the current regime, stressing the need for solidarity among Ugandans in the face of mounting political oppression.
