Last evening, the new police Chief IGP Abbas Byakagaba made sweeping changes in the Uganda Police Force, moving several officers to different offices immediately.

Byakabaga appointed Richard Echega as the new Kampala Metropolitan Commander, ACP Twishime Gerald Deputy KMP Commander, SSP Seguya now RPC KMP North, SSP Nanoka now KMP, and Afande Steven Tanui, who was KMP commander, was appointed Deputy Director of Fire.

Among those moved is Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, who started speaking for the force in 2018 and has over time grown into Ugandans’ favorite with his sense of humor and perfect Luganda language compared to his predecessors, especially Asan Kasingye and Emiriano Kayima.

SCP Fred Enanga was appointed police spokesperson in late December 2018 and took over from Afande Emiriano Kayima, who handed over to him on 16th January 2019.

Ugandans were used to Afande Fred Enanga, and upon hearing news that he has been moved from speaking for the force to be Deputy Director of Interpol in Uganda, which is not so influential, the majority have taken to social media to claim they will miss his ‘lies’ which he sometimes could punch in here and there while delivering on very critical matters.

Afande Enanga, who recently turned 51, delivered his last National Security Briefing at the police headquarters in Naguru and saluted the journalists who have moved with him during his tenure as Police Spokesperson.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Enanga expressed gratitude to the team he has worked with and the support rendered to him in the execution of his duties. He was replaced by ACP Rusoke Kituuma.

We publish Enanga’s Statement Verbatim below
