“Bobi Wine Is The Only International Artist We Have In Uganda” Gen Muhoozi’s Blue-eyed Boy Breaks Silence

Kampala businessman and media personality Frank Gashumba has caused a stir after saying that Uganda only has one international artist—Bobi Wine. Speaking during an interview on Sanyuka TV, Gashumba said that while Uganda has many talented musicians, none of them have reached true international fame. The only exception, according to him, is Bobi Wine—and even that is more because of his politics than his music.
“Uganda doesn’t have an international artist,” Gashumba said. “Our musicians perform abroad, yes—but they’re mainly singing for Ugandans who live in those countries, not for global fans.”
He explained that a real international artist should be able to fill big venues like stadiums or arenas in cities like London, Toronto, or Berlin—and attract people from all backgrounds, not just fellow countrymen. Gashumba compared Uganda to Nigeria, where artists like Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid are able to sell out massive concerts around the world and have fans across different cultures.
Gashumba said he has personally attended concerts of Ugandan artists overseas, and most of the audience were Ugandans living in the diaspora. “It’s not just about performing outside Uganda,” he added. “It’s about who you are performing for.”
He went on to say that Bobi Wine is the only Ugandan artist who can be called an international figure, but mostly because of his political activism and the attention he gets from international media and human rights organizations. “He is the only one who can be called an international Museveni,” Gashumba said, highlighting Bobi’s global recognition beyond music.
His statements have sparked a heated debate. Some people praised his honesty, saying it’s time the music industry faced the truth and aimed higher. Others criticized him, saying he disrespected the hard work of Ugandan musicians trying to grow their brands globally.
Despite the controversy, Gashumba’s comments have opened up an important discussion. Should Ugandan artists aim beyond their diaspora fan base? Should they push harder for international quality and reach? One thing is clear—Bobi Wine’s name continues to shine on the world stage, whether through music or politics.
