“He Must Appear Before Parliament & Explain His Actions” Parliament Bitterly Demands

The Defence and Internal Affairs Committee of Parliament has halted discussions on the budget for the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, demanding an urgent meeting with General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).
This decision follows controversy surrounding his tweets, which have raised serious concerns among lawmakers. The committee, led by Makindye East MP Derrick Nyeko, insisted that Muhoozi must appear in person to explain his actions.
Nyeko specifically highlighted Muhoozi’s inflammatory tweets, including threats against former presidential candidates Robert Kyagulanyi and Dr. Kizza Besigye. Notably, Dr. Besigye is currently facing terrorism charges at the Court Martial, which Muhoozi oversees. During the meeting, Defence Minister Marksons Oboth, who was present, was pressed to explain why Muhoozi was absent. However, MPs emphasized that only Muhoozi could address their concerns directly.
MP Theodore Ssekikubo expressed frustration over the situation, warning that it could lead to the collapse of parliamentary oversight. He emphasized the importance of the meeting, stating that there was no more crucial session in the parliamentary calendar. Ssekikubo also criticized the committee chairperson for suggesting that they focus on the UPDF Amendment Bill instead of addressing the critical issue at hand. He voiced his frustration by saying, “When members raise this critical matter, it is only fair that you be kind to us. Don’t make us look sambala sambala. Anyhow!”
In response to the concerns raised, the committee resolved to suspend budget discussions until Muhoozi attends the emergency meeting to answer their questions. This move highlights the growing tensions between Parliament and the Ministry of Defence over issues of accountability and responsibility.
