How I Finally Won a County Tender After Five Years of Trying
I am called Martin. I run a small construction company based in Kakamega. For years, I kept applying for county government tenders, hoping to grow my business beyond private contracts. But every time I submitted my documents, they would be rejected, or I wouldn’t get any response at all. I once came very close during a bid for a water project but lost it right at the final stage.
It became clear to me that something was wrong. I had the experience, the qualifications, and a solid team behind me. Yet for five years, I didn’t win a single tender. I started to suspect that someone might be standing in my way—maybe a competitor or someone who didn’t want to see me succeed.
Last year, during a contractors’ meeting in Eldoret, one of the speakers said something that really stuck with me: “In this business, there are two things—the right paperwork and the right energy.” Later that evening, I spoke with an older contractor who told me plainly that most successful bidders don’t rely on paperwork alone.
