JOINING FORCES TO UNSEAT MUSEVENI!! Alliance For National Transformation Party President Gen Mugisha Muntu Joins Besigye’s Group

In a major political development, General Mugisha Muntu, President of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), has officially partnered with Dr. Kizza Besigye’s People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) in a renewed effort to challenge President Yoweri Museveni’s decades-long leadership.
The two opposition groups signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Hotel Africana in Kampala. Alice Alaso signed on behalf of ANT, while Erias Lukwago represented PFF. This agreement marks a significant step toward uniting Uganda’s opposition ahead of the 2026 general elections.
This partnership also brings Gen. Muntu and Dr. Besigye back together after their political paths separated in 2019 when Muntu left the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to form ANT. Their reunion symbolizes a renewed commitment to work together for political change.
Gen. Muntu used the occasion to speak about the challenges Uganda faces under President Museveni’s leadership. He accused the government of weakening state institutions and creating a system that has eroded public trust. According to Muntu, many Ugandans have lost hope in the country’s politics due to corruption, poor governance, and lack of accountability.
He expressed concern over how some voters are influenced with small amounts of money, such as Shs 2,000 or Shs 10,000, during elections. He called this practice unethical and harmful to the integrity of Uganda’s democracy.
The new alliance aims to resist such tactics and build a disciplined, people-focused movement. Muntu warned that the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) often uses money to silence vocal opposition leaders, but said the ANT-PFF partnership will resist those temptations and remain focused on genuine reform.
Muntu praised the maturity and discipline of both groups during the quiet negotiations that led to the signing of the MoU. He also confirmed that the alliance has been in discussions with the National Unity Platform (NUP), highlighting ongoing efforts to bring together all major opposition forces.
As part of the agreement, a Common Ground Council has been formed to help manage joint activities and guide the selection of candidates for the 2026 elections. Muntu said the coalition’s main goal is not just to remove Museveni from power, but to rebuild Uganda’s political culture, strengthen institutions, and restore dignity to the people.
He challenged Uganda’s educated elite to take a stand for truth and justice, rather than supporting a system that he believes has failed the country. He also called for the release of political prisoners, stronger protection of human rights, and a clear plan for peaceful political transition.
Muntu ended his speech with a message of hope, saying that real victory starts with mindset change. He encouraged Ugandans to believe in a better future built on unity, integrity, and determination.
This new alliance between Gen. Muntu and Dr. Besigye could reshape Uganda’s political landscape and set the stage for a stronger, more united opposition as the country prepares for the next general elections.
