“Kizza Besigye Used To Call Me A Coward & Now It’s Time For Him To Pay, We Shall Hang Him In Gulu On Heros Day” Gen Muhoozi Makes Another Yet Controversial Tweet

Ugandan opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye is reportedly set to be hanged on Heroes Day 2025 in Gulu, according to a post from the X (formerly Twitter) account associated with Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Ugandan Chief of Defence Forces and the first son of President Yoweri Museveni.
In two separate posts shared on his account, Gen. Muhoozi, who had been absent from the platform for a few days, claimed that Besigye, the president’s staunch critic, would face execution during the Heroes Day celebrations. Besigye, a long-time adversary of Museveni, has run against the president in four previous elections and remains a leading opposition figure.
In his posts, Gen. Muhoozi recalled how Besigye had previously called him “a clown and a coward.” He further stated that Besigye’s fate would be sealed in Gulu, where he would be hanged, describing it as the appropriate end for someone who had insulted him. Gen. Muhoozi also issued a stark warning that after Besigye’s death, anyone who had spoken ill of his uncle, Gen. Caleb Akandwanaho (also known as Gen. Salim Saleh), would be arrested. “We will hang KB on Heroes’s Day. That’s the best day for him to die,” he wrote on the platform.
The posts also referenced Besigye’s ongoing trial, where he faces charges of treason, undermining national security, and illegal possession of firearms. This comes after Muhoozi’s prior threats against other opposition figures, including his notorious threat to decapitate Bobi Wine, another leading opposition politician. While these posts signal a dramatic escalation in the rhetoric surrounding Besigye’s treatment, it remains unclear whether the execution will actually take place.
