Fresh details have emerged surrounding the mysterious death of renowned gynecologist Dr. Spire Kiggundu, proprietor of Henrob Hospital. The key witness in the case, 31-year-old Eva Mbabazi, has finally broken her silence after being arrested by detectives in Seeta, Mukono District. She is currently being held at Kajjansi Police Station as investigations continue.

Eva told police that she first met Dr. Kiggundu in 2018 when she brought her sick sister to Henrob Hospital. Over time, the two developed a close bond that eventually turned into a secret romantic relationship, even though the doctor was married. Their affair remained hidden from the public and even many of his colleagues.

On June 22, Eva met Dr. Kiggundu at a guest house where he had checked in alone earlier that evening. When she arrived, she found two bottles of water, some juice, and two new HIV testing kits in the room—but no protectors. According to her statement, they began spending time together, but just 30 minutes in, the doctor suddenly began to struggle with his breathing.

Eva said she initially thought he might be having a seizure or an epileptic episode, so she stayed by his side, hoping he would recover. When his condition worsened, she panicked and, not knowing what to do, left the room. She later returned briefly to collect a bottle of perfume the doctor had given her as a gift. When she re-entered the room, she found him lying motionless. Frightened and confused, she left again without alerting anyone.

While riding home on a bodaboda, Eva said she attempted to call Dr. Kiggundu several times, but he did not respond. Later, CCTV footage and phone records confirmed she was the last person seen with him before his death.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, Eva’s arrest was based on the belief that she may hold critical information about the doctor’s final moments. While her statement has shed some light on the incident, the exact cause of Dr. Kiggundu’s death is still under investigation.
