Twahira Akandinda, widow of the late Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya, has publicly rejected recent DNA test results that suggest her son is not biologically related to the deceased legislator. In a passionate statement to the media, the 30-year-old mother accused unnamed individuals of orchestrating a smear campaign aimed at discrediting her and diverting public attention from more pressing national issues.

“These results are false,” Twahira asserted. “They were fabricated to destroy my name and distract the country from what really matters.” She claimed the controversy surrounding the DNA test is part of a larger scheme to damage her reputation and possibly deny her son his rightful identity and inheritance.

The late Muhammad Ssegirinya was a prominent political figure known for his vocal advocacy for the people of Kawempe North. His unexpected death left many in shock, and the emergence of a paternity dispute has only deepened the public’s grief and confusion.

Twahira remains adamant that her son is indeed Ssegirinya’s child and vowed to continue fighting for his recognition. She also raised serious concerns about the DNA testing process, questioning its transparency and legality.

“Why was I not properly involved in the process? Why were things handled in secrecy?” she asked. Her remarks have struck a chord with many, prompting calls for an independent and transparent investigation into the handling of the case.

As the dispute gains national attention, public opinion remains divided. Some Ugandans have expressed support for Twahira, demanding justice and clarity for the late MP’s family. Others are urging authorities to thoroughly probe the authenticity and procedures of the DNA testing.

Despite the controversy, Twahira remains resolute. “I know the truth, and I won’t stop until my son is acknowledged and respected as the child of a man who served this country with integrity,” she declared.

What began as a private matter is quickly becoming a public issue, raising broader concerns about how DNA disputes — especially those involving public figures — are handled in Uganda. As the nation watches closely, the outcome of this emotional and high-profile case remains uncertain.
