A wave of shock and uncertainty has swept across Uganda following revelations that a crucial FBI report related to the 2017 assassination of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Andrew Felix Kaweesi has mysteriously gone missing. The disappearance of the report from official police files has sparked widespread concern and raised serious questions about transparency and accountability within the security apparatus.

AIGP Kaweesi, one of Uganda’s most prominent and vocal senior police officers, was brutally murdered alongside his driver and bodyguard in a targeted attack just outside his home in Kampala. The scene of the crime bore signs of a carefully planned operation, with multiple bullet casings found, suggesting a professional and well-coordinated hit.

His death sent shockwaves throughout the nation. Social media was flooded with tributes, grief, and demands for justice. The murder gained even more attention due to a bold claim Kaweesi had made shortly before his assassination—he had alleged that certain members of the police force were colluding with criminal elements.

That explosive statement fueled public speculation and suspicion that the killing could have been orchestrated from within the police itself. Amid mounting pressure, the Ugandan government requested assistance from the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to aid in the probe.

The FBI conducted an independent investigation and was said to have submitted a comprehensive report detailing their findings. However, in a disturbing turn of events, authorities have now confirmed that this vital report has disappeared from police archives.

The missing file has triggered outrage among Ugandans, many of whom are now questioning whether its disappearance was accidental—or a deliberate act to conceal the truth. Who had access to the report? Why is it unaccounted for? Could this be part of a larger cover-up?

So far, the Uganda Police Force has not issued a definitive explanation about how or when the report went missing, further fueling public suspicion and frustration. For many, the lost document represents more than just a lapse in record-keeping—it could hold the answers to one of the most high-profile assassinations in the country’s recent history.

With the 2026 general elections on the horizon and public confidence in security institutions already fragile, the vanishing of the FBI report adds another layer of tension to Uganda’s political and justice landscape. Until the truth emerges, the mystery surrounding Kaweesi’s death—and the missing report—continues to cast a long shadow over the nation.
