Bobi Wine Suspends Mpuuga As NUP Deputy President For Buganda; Reveals The ‘Evil’ Plans Mpuuga Had To Disorganize NUP

The National Unity Platform has made significant allegations against Nyendo-Mukungwe legislator Mathias Mpuuga, accusing him of involvement in corruption.

Mpuuga, along with other NRM commissioners, allegedly shared Shs1.7 billion as service awards in a meeting chaired by Speaker Anita Among. This claim surfaced during an online exhibition tagged #Ugandaparliamentexhibition, where Mpuuga purportedly confessed to receiving the money.

In response, the party requested Mpuuga to step down from his role as parliamentary commissioner. However, Mpuuga staunchly refused, arguing that receiving a service award of Shs500 million, designated for his previous role as Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, did not constitute a crime.

Subsequently, the National Executive Committee, under the leadership of Deputy President Lina Zedriga, issued a letter to Mpuuga, demanding a written explanation within seven days. Mpuuga responded, but his reasons were deemed insufficient.

Consequently, the Committee unanimously decided to recall Mpuuga from the parliamentary commission, replacing him with Francis Zaake Butebi, the former Mityana Municipality Legislator who was previously ousted from the same position in 2022.

In a press conference at parliament, Mpuuga reiterated his innocence and determination to remain in his position, vowing to launch a campaign to steer the party in the right direction, asserting his deep connection to NUP as one of its founders.

The same day Speaker Anita Among wrote back to NUP declining their decision to recall Mpuuga from the parliamentary commission. Among contends that the party can only nominate like they did but after, they have no powers to cause removal of a commissioner and therefore she shielded Mpuuga from any action.

Now after learning that the Deputy President has plans to launch a campaign with in the party to reclaim it from bad leadership, the party has now suspended him from the position of being it’s Deputy President Central region and has not appointed a substantive acting Deputy president.

According to the party, Mpuuga’s suspension takes immediate affect and it’s attributed to his engaging in actions of corruption and abuse of office and his failure to give a satisfactory explanation of the same.
