Boda Boda Riders , Taxi Drivers Loose Hundreds Of Millions After Being Promised To Meet Muhoozi And Get More Money
Officers from the Police Criminal Investigation Department have arrested a 33-year-old man for defrauding millions of shillings after promising to lead the public to meet the First Son and recently appointed Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Mubarak Iguma, a resident of Elegu, confirmed to boda boda drivers, taxi drivers, lounge operators, bar owners and market vendors, among others, that he is one of the leaders of the Patriotic League Of Uganda and promised to organize an event for them and Meeting with General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
“He told the victims that he was one of the leaders of the MK movement before it became the PLU and promised to put them in touch with General Muhoozi Kainerugaba and asked them for money to register and obtain their MK movement cards,” Enanga Said.
“He also promised the victims that he would take them to General Muhoozi Kainerugaba but also promised to present their issues and problems to the General for support.” Enanga Added.
He said the suspect, who demanded Shs10 million per person as membership fee, trapped at least 200 people.Enanga said the suspect had fake MK movement cards before his arrest and a copy of the MK Constitution which he was ordered to give to the victims after payment.
“He will be tried for fraud and obtaining money by imitation. Efforts continue to capture Abdul Karim Matovu, who is on the run.”
The police spokesperson sounded a warning to fraudsters and conmen that the long arm of the law will get them wherever they try to hide.
