DON’T REFUSE THE MONEY!! After Eating Museveni’s 10k & Getting Free T-Shirts Kampala Returns to NUP in Full Force
Just a day after President Yoweri Museveni’s rally in Busega, many Kampala residents have resumed openly supporting the National Unity Platform (NUP). Despite receiving UGX 10,000 and a free yellow T-shirt from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), attendees appear unmoved in their political allegiance.

The rally, held as part of the launch of the Parish Development Model (PDM) program, drew large crowds. Yet, many participants admit their motivation was not political support but the small cash handout and free merchandise. Today, those same individuals are once again rallying behind NUP candidates, reaffirming their support for Robert Kyagulanyi—popularly known as Bobi Wine—and the “People Power” movement.
The event has reignited debate over the effectiveness of political handouts in Uganda. Critics argue that distributing small sums of money or gifts during political events amounts to manipulation rather than genuine engagement. Many Ugandans now express a common sentiment: “Take the money, vote for change.”
In a city grappling with high living costs and widespread unemployment, UGX 10,000 can make a short-term difference. But for many residents, it’s not enough to sway their vision for the country’s future. “We wear the yellow for food, but our hearts are still red,” one attendee reportedly said.
This episode underscores the enduring support for NUP and the widespread desire for new leadership. While rallies and handouts may stir temporary attention, the political momentum in Kampala—and much of Uganda—appears to remain firmly with the red wave of the National Unity Platform.
