Don’t Smile At Them!! Bobi Wine Tells Ugandans To Show Discontent To NAM Summit Delegates

The National Unity Platform (NUP) Principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, took a bold stance as the NAM summit kicked off.
Addressing the crowd at the NUP Headquarters in Makerere Kavule, he stood against the Minister of Information’s call for a warm welcome to summit attendees. Instead, Kyagulanyi urged Ugandans to seize the moment, turning the spotlight on their discontent.
In a passionate plea, he emphasized the importance of utilizing the NAM Summit as a platform to voice concerns. Rejecting the idea of a harmonious reception, Kyagulanyi encouraged citizens to make their dissatisfaction known during this international gathering. The NUP leader believed that this global event offered a unique opportunity for Ugandans to shed light on issues affecting them. As he concluded his address, Bobi Wine’s rallying cry resonated through the NUP Headquarters, urging citizens to unite in expressing their grievances.
The NAM Summit, meant for diplomatic discussions, took an unexpected turn as Kyagulanyi mobilized Ugandans to use the occasion for civic engagement and to bring their discontent to the forefront.The 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit kicks off today Monday, January 15, 2024, and will run for five days till 20th at Speke Resort, Munyoyo in Kampala.
During the summit, Uganda will assume chairmanship of the 120-member country alliance until 2027.Established in 1961, the Non-Aligned Movement is a grouping of mostly developing countries working together to advance shared interests. Uganda is also expected to host the 134-member country Group 77 (G77) Third South summit which will commence on January 21, 2024, and will be concluded on 23rd this month.
The two summits are the 2nd largest in the world after the United Nations (UN) General Assembly which brings together 193 countries. Meanwhile, the main routes for the summit will be the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway to Speke Resort Hotel, Munyonyo stretching through the Northern By-pass, Binaisa Road, Mulago roundabout, Yusuf Lule Road to the Nile Avenue.
Traffic police have announced likely diversions on some roads across Kampala.
