Finally Remembered!! Museveni Appoints Former VP Gilbert Bukenya To Juicy Government Position
Reports reaching our desk reveal that President Museveni has appointed former Vice President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya to a prominent position within his administration, despite having distanced himself from Bukenya in the past.
Bukenya, who previously served as the Member of Parliament for Busiro North and Uganda’s 7th Vice President from 2003 to 2011, has been relatively absent from the political sphere since his unsuccessful bid for the presidency with The Democratic Alliance (TDA), an opposition coalition, prior to the 2016 general elections.
Despite initially expressing interest and even submitting candidacy forms for the TDA, Bukenya was overlooked in favor of former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi.President Museveni has now extended an olive branch to his longtime ally by appointing him as a senior presidential advisor on Environment and Sanitation.
Bukenya joins the ranks of other advisors to Museveni, such as Salim Saleh, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and Nadduli, who were appointed as special presidential advisors in February of the previous year.Bukenya’s new role grants him privileges akin to those of Cabinet Ministers.
In his capacity as Senior Presidential Advisor, Prof. Bukenya will counsel the President on strategies to conserve the environment, foster sustainable development, and improve public health through enhanced sanitation practices. His leadership is anticipated to instigate positive changes towards creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Uganda.
This reappointment underscores President Museveni’s acknowledgment of Prof. Bukenya’s competencies and track record, highlighting the significance of consistency and expertise in shaping Uganda’s environmental policies and enhancing the well-being of its populace.
The public awaits with anticipation the contributions and influence that Prof. Bukenya will bring to his new position, as he utilizes his expertise, knowledge, and dedication to environmental conservation and sanitation to drive substantive progress and revolutionize Uganda’s environmental landscape.
