First Son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba Welcomed Like A King On His Arrival in Kigali For President Kagame’s Inauguration

In a historic display of regional camaraderie, First Son General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), touched down at Kigali International Airport today, marking a significant milestone in the strengthening of ties between Uganda and Rwanda.
As the sun rose over the Rwandan capital, General Kainerugaba’s arrival set the stage for a momentous occasion – the swearing-in ceremony of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, poised to embark on his fourth term in office.
The General’s visit is a testament to the enduring bond between the two nations, fostered by his tireless efforts to ease tensions and promote cooperation.
Upon his arrival, General Kainerugaba was warmly received by his Rwandan counterpart, General Mubarak Muganga, alongside other senior officials from the Rwandan Defence Forces (RDF).
He is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Major General James Birungi, head of Defence Intelligence and Security, and Brigadier General Richard Karemire, who leads the UPDF’s department of formal education, sports, and culture. Notable figures Alexander Akandwanaho and journalist Andrew Mwenda are also part of the delegation.
During his stay, General Kainerugaba, who serves as the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, is expected to engage in fruitful discussions with President Kagame and General Muganga. His visit comes on the heels of a significant announcement earlier this week, where he expressed his intention to attend President Kagame’s inauguration.
“I am delighted to return to my second home, Rwanda, to witness Afande Kagame’s inauguration,” the General remarked on Monday, reflecting on his last visit to Kigali in 2023.
“This will undoubtedly be the most significant celebration in Africa this year. Rukundo Egumeho!” he added with enthusiasm.
President Kagame’s re-election in the July polls, securing an overwhelming 99.15% of the vote, has reaffirmed his dominance in Rwandan politics. His main rivals, Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party and Philippe Mpayimana, received a mere 0.53% and 0.32% of the vote, respectively.
In a congratulatory message, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni commended Kagame, noting the strong trust the Rwandan people have placed in his leadership.
“Your re-election is a clear testament to the confidence the people of Rwanda have in your vision and governance,” Museveni stated.
President Museveni also underscored the importance of the strategic partnership between Uganda and Rwanda, emphasizing their shared commitment to peace and prosperity.
“Uganda views Rwanda as a crucial ally in our mutual pursuit of peace and development,” he added.
The dinner celebrating General Kainerugaba’s 49th birthday in 2023 saw President Kagame praise the General for his efforts in restoring cordial relations between the two nations. As General Kainerugaba prepares to witness President Kagame’s inauguration, the stage is set for a new chapter in regional cooperation and friendship.
