Former LoP Mpuuga Endorsed To Run For Presidency In 2026!! Mpuuga Confirms Endorsement – Speaks Out
Politician Mathias Mpuga has today reacted to the endorsement he got to run as the Democratic Peoples flagbearer in the coming general elections.
Several candidates have already come out to announce of their intentions to run, with the elections set to be held in 2026. Mpugga had a press conference today at parliament also highlighting the Leave of parliament he’s seeking to introduce a private members bill with some of the much needed electoral reforms.
Mpugga is the latest entrant in the race, set to face among others, the incumbent President Yoweri Museveni. He was once suspended by Bobi Wine as his NUP Deputy president for Buganda because of the controversies he had with the 500m he got from parliament as service which Bobi Wine says it tantamount to corruption.
“I thank my brothers in the DP Bloc for electing me to hold their flag in the next election. I can handle the responsibilities they are talking about and I cannot apologize for that but I don’t think that is the main issue at the moment” – Hon. Mpuuga Said
Bobi Wine, leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), is at the center of growing tensions within the party, sparked by allegations of corruption and internal discord with former Leader of Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga.
The feud took a new turn when Bobi Wine recently suspended Mpuuga from his role as NUP Deputy President for Buganda. The move has led to speculation about favoritism, particularly concerning the Buganda Kingdom’s Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, due to his close friendship with Mpuuga.
Addressing these rumors, Mayiga firmly denied taking sides in the dispute, emphasizing that both Bobi Wine and Mpuuga are long-time friends.
“I don’t side with anyone. Mpuuga and I are friends, but I have known Bobi Wine long before he entered politics,” Mayiga clarified.
The feud has caused a rift among supporters, with social media battles intensifying between backers of Bobi Wine and Mpuuga.Mayiga denies taking sides in Bobi Wine-Mpuuga conflict.
Adding to the tension, Mpuuga has openly criticized NUP’s ‘Kkunga’ mobilization campaign, which is spearheaded by Bobi Wine’s brother, Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu. The suspension of Mpuuga, paired with his opposition to the campaign, highlights the widening divisions within NUP.
While the feud has exposed underlying cracks in the party, both leaders continue to command significant influence, making the resolution of these conflicts critical to the future of Uganda’s political opposition.
