“He Will Be Handled” Gen Salim Saleh Breaks Silence Over Gen Muhoozi’s Tweets
Tensions are mounting at the top levels of Uganda’s military and political hierarchy following pointed criticism from General Caleb Akandwanaho popularly known as Salim Saleh concerning the online behavior of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the country’s Chief of Defence Forces.
Saleh, a powerful figure in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and brother to President Yoweri Museveni, has publicly expressed alarm over Muhoozi’s frequent, often provocative social media posts. He disclosed that efforts are underway to bring Muhoozi’s online activity under tighter control, especially to protect Uganda’s global image.
Sources close to the matter say Western diplomats have formally raised concerns about Muhoozi’s Twitter activity, suggesting it is damaging Uganda’s international standing and straining key diplomatic ties.
Despite enjoying a massive following online, Muhoozi’s blunt and controversial remarks have stirred debate about the direction of Uganda’s foreign policy. Saleh’s intervention indicates a push within the government to ensure that public statements by military and political leaders align with official policy.
Diplomatic insiders report that relationships with some of Uganda’s Western allies have cooled in part due to Muhoozi’s tweets, which, though personal in nature, are seen as carrying official weight given his high-ranking position.
At home, Muhoozi’s political influence is on the rise, fueling ongoing speculation about a potential presidential bid. Saleh’s move to regulate his online presence may be part of a broader strategy to shape the image of Uganda’s leadership as the country approaches possible political transitions.
This development may signal a critical juncture for Uganda as it seeks to balance military authority, political aspirations, and the power of public messaging. Whether this results in tighter internal discipline or ignites new power struggles remains uncertain.
