“I Am Ready To Employ Bobi Wine And Besigye In Top Government Offices” Museveni Reveals
Ugandan President Gen (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has expressed willingness to provide lucrative employment opportunities and collaborate with opposition leaders Dr Kizza Besigye and the National Unity Platform (NUP) Principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu , also known as Bobi Wine.
Museveni, in power since 1986 after a five-year bush war in the Luweero Triangle, suggests working with Besigye and Bobi Wine, acknowledging his previous collaboration with Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere in 1996.
Besigye, once Museveni’s personal Doctor during the bush war, later became a minister but shifted to opposition politics, challenging Museveni in four unsuccessful presidential elections, citing vote rigging. Bobi Wine emerged as a prominent opposition figure in the 2021 election, leading the National Unity Platform (NUP). Although he lost to Museveni, the NUP claimed victory with over 52 percent.
In the Post-election, Museveni extended a job offer to presidential candidate Norbert Mao, leader of the Democratic Party, as Minister of Justice and Constitutional Minister after a collaboration agreement. Now Museveni also aims to extend similar opportunities to Besigye and Bobi Wine.
“No problem [giving Bobi Wine and Besigye jobs and working with them]. I was working with [Paul Kawanga] Ssemogerere in 1996,” Museveni Said During An Interview With the BBC.
However, both Besigye and Bobi Wine have previously outlined conditions for engaging with Museveni in talks.
In Uganda’s current political narrative, Bobi Wine recently accused certain members of his NUP party of collaborating with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), without explicitly naming individuals. Despite these recurrent claims, Kyagulanyi has often stopped short of specifically identifying the individuals involved.
However, the situation gained clarity when two NUP members of parliament, Twaha Kagabo of the Bukoto South constituency in Lwengo district and Jimmy Lwanga of Njeru municipality in Buikwe district, publicly declared their support for General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
