“I’m In So Much Pain, I’m Being Beaten Alot In The Cells” Besigye’s Lawyer Eron Kizza Finally Speaks After Being Sentenced

Deputy Lord Mayor, Doreen Omutatina, recently visited human rights lawyer Kiiza Eron, who has been sentenced to nine months in prison for contempt of court. The sentencing has attracted significant attention, with several sources confirming the news and many lawyers speaking out on various social media platforms. They raised concerns that the law was not properly followed before the sentence was imposed.
After her visit to Eron Kiiza at the court, Deputy Lord Mayor Omutatina took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her observations. She reported that the renowned lawyer had sustained several injuries to his body. Omutatina explained that Kiiza was injured during an altercation at Makindye Law Court, which eventually led to his arrest.
In her post, Omutatina described Kiiza as being in severe pain, with swelling and bruises all over his body. She noted that his ribs, waist, and neck were particularly painful, and his left ear was swollen. She also mentioned that Kiiza was brutally beaten in the detention cells at the court martial, to the point where he was gasping for breath. “We thank God he is alive,” she wrote, expressing hope that he would be allowed a medical examination by an independent and trusted medical team.
Opposition leader Joel Ssenyonyi also commented on the incident, explaining that the altercation began when Kiiza attempted to sit in a section reserved for other lawyers. A military officer stopped him, which escalated into the confrontation.
