Former Ugandan Police Chief General Kale Kayihura is making efforts to restore his reputation after his dismissal in 2018 and years of legal troubles.

In 2023, the General Court Martial cleared him of all charges, including accusations of failing to protect war materials and illegally deporting Rwandan refugees. This marked a significant step in his comeback journey.

In October 2023, residents of Kisoro district held a special event to welcome him back home and celebrate his contributions.

During the ceremony, Kayihura expressed gratitude to his supporters and explained that he had no interest in joining politics. He said that his focus was on his retirement, particularly on farming and other personal endeavors.

In December 2024, President Yoweri Museveni hosted Kayihura and his family at his home in Rwakitura. Though details of their discussion remain private, many believe it was part of a reconciliation effort, possibly to rebuild trust and mend relationships.

While Kayihura’s legal troubles are behind him, his time as police chief was not without controversy.

He faced criticism for policies that targeted opposition groups and for actions that many saw as politically motivated. He has since distanced himself from such allegations and appears focused on starting a new chapter.

Kayihura plans to spend his retirement farming and helping his local community. By staying away from politics and focusing on personal projects, he hopes to rebuild his name and leave a positive legacy.
