The Masaka Nyendo Member Of Parliament Ho Mathias Mpuuga, accompanied by only two National Unity Platform (NUP) MPs, namely Joyce Bagala and Abed Bwanika, has expressed grave concerns about the party’s current state, citing obscurantism, nepotism, corruption, incompetence, and extortion.

As the founder of NUP, he feels obligated to lead a coalition of like-minded MPs and elected officials to end the era characterized by embarrassment for the party. He also vowed not to quit NUP no matter how much the Party Secretariat will spend investing in so-called foot soldiers to abuse him.

He said quitting would be anomalous because NUP is a party he founded as opposed to merely joining.Despite facing criticism and abuse from so-called foot soldiers allegedly funded by the Party Secretariat, Mpuuga affirmed his commitment to NUP, emphasizing its founding significance to him.

He criticized the misuse of party offices by the Kyagulanyi clique for extortion and blackmail, vowing to embark on a nationwide tour to elucidate the issues within NUP and advocate for necessary reforms.Mpuuga also denounced the exploitation of Diaspora contributions by current NUP leaders for self-gain.

He questioned the priorities of NUP leadership, particularly regarding its silence on President Museveni’s dynastic tendencies and the reappointment of Electoral Commission officials, despite claiming victimization by the same EC during the 2021 elections.

To reinforce claims made by his supporters that regime change and ousting Museveni are no longer priorities for Kyagulanyi, Mpuuga questioned why NUP leadership hasn’t strongly condemned President Museveni’s dynastic actions, such as appointing his son MK as the CDF of UPDF and reappointing all EC bosses for another term.

Mpuuga criticized NUP’s failure to mobilize against Justice Simon Byabakama’s reappointment to the EC, despite alleging vote rigging in the 2021 elections.

As the party’s Deputy President, Mpuuga pledged to mobilize nationwide and overhaul NUP into a party aligned with the aspirations of change-seeking Ugandans. He promised to collaborate closely with them once envisioned intra-party reforms are implemented.

In the unfortunate event of a conflict similar to that of the FDC arising within NUP, the Mpuuga faction is poised to emerge victorious, potentially due to their alignment with the Musevenist state.

However, during the same press conference, Mpuuga also addressed Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya’s letter urging the Speaker to de-recognize him as the Parliamentary Commissioner representing NUP.
