“MP Lillian Aber Should Be Arrested For Putting On A UPDF Uniform” Bobi Wine’s NUP Reacts After Viral Photos
The National Unity Platform (NUP) says all Members of parliament and some people who were captured donned in the UPDF uniform should be arrested with immediate effect.MP Lillian Aber was photographed wearing military camouflage, raising concerns about how she obtained the uniform.
The photos, shared on social media, showed the legislator in military fatigues on Monday, February 5th, as she flagged off a cleaning exercise by uniformed personnel ahead of Terehe Sita celebrations in Kitgum District.
The Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi told the journalists during the press conference at party headquarters in Makerere Kavule that Lilian Aber, the Kitgum Woman MP, Peter Ogwang MP for Usuk County and many others were captured wearing UPDF uniform but security has not arrested them yet many of NUP supporters are behind the bars for wearing NUP Red berets.
Ssenyonyi says selective application of laws is not good and can easily cause problems to the country. He has asked UPDF to come out and explain to the public and NUP the reasons for their supporters still being in jail yet they never owned any security uniform.
The NUP Boss Bobi Wine himself wasted no time in condemning the act. With fiery determination, he took to Twitter, denouncing the double standards that seemed to shield those aligned with the ruling party from consequences.
“I think we can all agree that it is not for violating the law that hundreds of NUP/ PeoplePower supporters have suffered abduction, arrest, torture, prosecution and even death for putting on the #PeoplePower red berets. They endure that persecution simply because they oppose Museveni and his criminal regime. That’s why NRM’s Lilian Aber (Woman MP Kitgum District) can freely put on the full UPDF uniform and nothing is done to her — just like many other regime apologists have gotten away with similar conduct! Good enough, history is a kind judge.” Bobi Wine Tweeted.
It should be noted that The Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) has also taken action after MP Lillian Aber was photographed wearing military camouflage, raising concerns about how she obtained the uniform.
In response to the controversy, UPDF spokesperson Brigadier Gen. Felix Kulayigye announced that a soldier, whose identity was not disclosed, had been arrested for providing Aber with the uniform without authorization.
