MP Ssegirinya Finally Reconciles With NUP Deputy Spokesperson Months After ‘Mocking’ His Sickness
Kawempe South Member of Parliament, Muhammad Ssegirinya and National Unity Platform (NUP) deputy spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro have reunited and let go of their past rift.
For months now, the two have been involved in a war of words despite belonging to the same party.Their feud had been triggered by Mufumbiro’s statements in which he accused Ssegirinya of faking his illness and using his situation to put NUP in disrepute.
Upon return to the country from the Netherlands where he had been receiving treatment for skin cancer, Ssegirinya, last month, expressed his bitterness with the NUP deputy spokesperson’s statements which he deemed painful.
“I heard the statements he (Mufumbiro) made while I was on my sickbed, I was very pained, everyone else in NUP was sending me good wishes but Waiswa was abusing me” he said in September.
Ssegirinya had even decreed that Mufumbiro should never step at his burial. However, on Tuesday, the pair met at NUP headquarters and buried the hatchet.Speaking at the party headquarters, Ssegirinya blamed his previous feud with Mufumbiro on anger, and apologised to the NUP mouthpiece.
“Whatever I said about him (Mufumbiro), it was out of anger. It was a mistake and I ask for your forgiveness. We are NUP and thus should stay united. There are some people who had taken advantage of our differences to separate us but now they have been ashamed.” Ssegirinya said.
In the same way, Mufumbiro asked for Ssegirinya’s forgiveness for the statements he made about him.
“Me and Ssegirinya are like brothers. Having been longtime members of NUP, we share many memories together and we couldn’t let our differences break this bond. My statements were made out of anger and I apologise to him.” Mufumbiro said.
Mufumbiro also thanked the NUP leadership led by party president Robert Kyagulanyi and secretary general David Rubongonya for their efforts towards the reconciliation.
