MPs Demand For More Money – Deputy Speaker Tayebwa Slams Them For Being Inconsiderate, Reveals Where The MPs Put The Money
Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, has expressed his frustration at Members of Parliament (MPs) for frequently requesting additional funding while failing to address key revenue issues.
Speaking during a parliamentary session, Thomas Tayebwa revealed the imbalance between the money collected from national parks and the economic damage caused by these decisions, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“You never raised revenue during COVID. The MPs have been coming to me and saying, when you look at the money you are going to collect from the national park, versus the businesses you are going to kill during that time for the region, they don’t add up,” Thomas Tayebwa said.
Thomas Tayebwa pointed out that while MPs continue to seek additional financial allocations, the economic disruptions caused by the pandemic were largely overlooked.
During the COVID-19 period, Uganda’s tourism industry, especially the national parks, suffered significant losses. However, Thomas Tayebwa stressed that MPs should have focused on finding ways to raise revenue sustainably rather than relying on funds that might have harmed businesses.
He further emphasized the need for Parliament to prioritize policies that stimulate economic growth rather than pushing for more funds without clear plans for revenue generation.
His remarks have ignited a conversation on how the government should balance revenue collection and the need to support businesses during economic downturns.
Thomas Tayebwa’s remarks exposes the growing frustrations in Parliament over fiscal management, as the country continues to recover from the impact of the pandemic.
His comments are a wake-up call for MPs to rethink their approach to the national budget and revenue collection strategies.
