“Museveni Told Our Grandparents That He Won’t Cling To Power But It Was All A Lie” Says Bobi Wine

National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, has urged Ugandans to choose the right leader in upcoming elections, cautioning against voting for individuals he describes as liars, such as President Yoweri Museveni.
Bobi Wine recalled how Museveni had once promised not to cling to power, a statement that he believes was a lie, noting that Museveni deceived their grandparents and parents. He reflected on how Museveni had claimed to be fighting for democracy and the rule of law, which led the Ugandan people to endure immense pain and suffering, hoping that with victory would come a better life.
Bobi Wine highlighted the initial celebrations when Museveni took power, with the streets of Kampala filled with dancing and singing. However, 40 years later, Museveni remains in power and has, according to Bobi Wine, committed atrocities that surpass those of previous governments.
Bobi Wine sees this not just as a lost opportunity but as an opportunity that has been stolen from the people of Uganda. He went on to reflect on the history of the nation, emphasizing how, at various points, the people of Uganda have missed the chance to build a country that their forefathers had dreamed of—one that is at peace with itself and offers equal opportunities for all citizens.
