Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has accused the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) of perpetuating electoral malpractice, claiming the party resorts to cheating even in contests it could easily win.
During an interview with NBS Television, Ssemujju expressed his frustrations, stating, “The Kisoro Woman by-election is one NRM would win but with NRM, even what they would easily win, they would still cheat.”
He criticized the party’s internal practices, alleging that NRM members often engage in violent and unethical behavior even during their internal elections.
“They are so bad mannered that when they are contesting against each other, they will still cheat and shoot at themselves,” he added.
Despite the allegations, Ms. Grace Ngabirano Akifeza, who contested as an Independent candidate after losing the NRM flag to Ms. Rose Kabagenyi, emerged victorious in the Kisoro District Woman MP by-election. She secured 50,459 votes, defeating five other candidates. The results were announced early this morning.
Ngabirano’s victory highlights the internal divisions within the NRM, as she managed to triumph over the official party candidate.
