Busiro South Constituency legislator Charles MatovuNasif Ssekitumba, one of the National Unity Platform (NUP) foot soldiers in Kasanje in Busiro South Constituency in Wakiso district has confirmed to the Kampala eye that their legislator Charles Matovu has hired goons to protect him from voters who are threatening to lynch him over empty promises.

Ssekitumba said that in October 2023, Matovu survived angry Kajjansi vendors who wanted to lynch him for failing to fulfill his promise of giving them iron sheets to rehabilitate their market yet he is moving around the constituency boasting that he fulfilled his promise to Kajjansi market vendors.

The legislator had gone back to the market to commiserate with the vendors who lost their goods in another fire tragedy. When they saw him, they started shouting on top of their voices accusing him of being a certified liar.Matovu was saved by the people he was moving with who later told him to leave and never to come back.

The legislator can now no longer step in Kajjansi, Kasanje and Bwebajja yet all these areas are in his constituency. He recently hired goons from Kasanje as part of his security detail. The Kampala Eye News tried to reach out to Matovu but he did not pick our phone calls. However, one of assistants accuses Stephen Ssekigozi and Peter Ssematimba of fueling the voters to fight their legislator as a way of weakening him.

He added that Matovu’s opponents are also spreading rumours that he is in bad books with his Principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) who is ready to front a candidate to contest against him in 2026 general elections.

He further accuses foot soldiers commanders at the NUP Secretariat of always dispatching a team to go to Busiro South to de-campaign Matovu because they think that he is fighting them.
