NUP MPs Refuse To Defend Bobi Wine Over His Pro Gay Comments!! Ugandans Left In Disbelief
The ruling NRM, through its Government Chip Whip, Denis Hamson Obua, expressed gratitude to Asuman Basalirwa and JEEMA for their stance against Bobi Wine on the issue of homosexuality.
Obua commended JEEMA Secretary General Mohammed Kateregga for his courage in addressing Bobi Wine in a viral letter, emphasizing support for their principled stand. Obua assured political backing from NRM and suggested that Basalirwa and Kateregga need not fear isolation from NUP, encouraging them to continue their pro-people advocacy.
Meanwhile, Speaker Anita Among urged NUP MPs to focus on representing their constituents rather than being swayed by individual interests, notably referencing Bobi Wine. Obua also pledged sanctuary for politically vulnerable NUP MPs if faced with escalating attacks from Bobi Wine.
Whereas Obua assured them of continuous support and hospitality from the NRM camp claiming that Bobi Wine is clearly not interested in them anymore, Anita Among encouraged the NUP legislators (many of them this Thursday morning cheerfully travelled to Kigali for EAC games upon naturally being flagged off by the Speaker) to fearlessly disregarded Mr. Wine and carry on with their work of representing their people.
“Wama you are very good people as far as the leadership of Parliament is concerned. Just represent your people the way you have been doing. It’s them that you have to keep working for and not an individual [veiled reference to Bobi Wine],” the Speaker asserted as the NUP MPs, in their good numbers, comfortably looked on at the beginning of the Wednesday plenary.
Obua went on to make it clear that NRM is more than prepared to provide generous sanctuary to all politically vulnerable NUP MPs should Bobi Wine escalate his attacks on them including repeatedly portraying them as working for President Museveni like he did during his BBC interview while in London.
Upto this point, none of the many NUP MPs present at the Wednesday plenary exhibited any appetite to contradict what the NRM side was saying clearly demonizing their party leader Robert Kyagulanyi SentamuDuring the Wednesday plenary, NUP MPs appeared unresponsive to the NRM’s criticisms of their party leader, Bobi Wine.
