President Museveni Goes Ballistic: Labels Bobi Wine’s NUP MP Ssewungu ‘Useless’ and ‘Childish’

In a scathing verbal attack that has garnered national attention, President Yoweri Museveni has lambasted Kalungu West MP Joseph Gonzaga Ssewungu, labeling him “useless” and “childish” in his speech.
This confrontation occurred on Friday at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) headquarters, where the President addressed mourners of the late Simon Aleper, a member of the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC).
The President’s remarks were sparked by the tragic death of Simon Peter Aleper, a former Moroto Municipality legislator, in a fatal motor accident on the Iganga-Tirinyi highway. Museveni attributed the accident to reckless driving and overspeeding on the newly constructed road, dismissing claims that the road is too narrow.
Museveni criticized Ssewungu’s suggestion that increasing the number of lanes would reduce accidents, calling it a childish solution.
He emphasized the need for Ugandans to manage progress and problems simultaneously, highlighting the challenges of tarmacking many roads in the country. He refuted the fellacy of some individuals alleging that roads are too narrow.
“Now you see progress and problems that’s why Ugandans need to manage the two. I saw one joker, you know you have got jokers in your society there. There is a joker, I think is called Ssewungu last night in Parliament when you were talking about Aleper…… you know those who are not so useful I always follow them up.”
He added: “Now he was saying that because there are two lanes, that’s why we have accidents! That we should go to four lanes, just like children. You see adults talking like children, we are struggling to tarmac many roads in the country, now this is talking of four lanes! When we have not even finished two. What sort of people are these? And they call them leaders!!”
The President consoled the family and mourners, urging them to trust in God’s plan. He acknowledged that sometimes, accidents are part of God’s plan, despite his own infrequent church attendance. He however urged the family and all the mourners to know that sometimes, it’s God’s plan.
“But sometimes it’s God who allows these things to happen……so I want the family of the late to trust in God. I have always trusted God although I’m not seen commonly in church.”
The late Aleper served in the 9th parliament and was the vice chairperson for NRM in Karamoja region. According to Busoga East police, the accident occurred on Tuesday at 1 am and involved a V8 motor vehicle, which Aleper was driving. He was killed instantly in the collision with an unknown motor vehicle.
