Prime Minister Nabbanja Speaks Out On ‘Stealing’ Mabaati – Says Even Mpuuga And Other Bobi Wine NUP MPs Share Government Money

Today, several leaders from Kampala and Greater Masaka traveled to St. Jude Lukaya Parish in Kalungu District for the silver jubilee celebrations of this Catholic community. The mass was presided over by the Diocesan Bishop of Masaka, Serverus Jjumba.
The , leaders in attendance included Minister Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi, Catherine Ndiwalana and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.
In a video from NBS Television shared on social media, the event was going well until the leaders were given the microphone to say a word or two. As the microphone reached his hands, opposition leader Joel Ssenyonyi criticized Prime Minister Nabbanja for excessive corruption that could even lead to the collapse of Museveni’s government.
He reminded the audience of the great Mabaati scandal, of which Nabbaja was one of the accused. It was time for Nabaniah to say a word too. In rebuttal, she first warned Ssenyonyi and other Ugandans to stop accusing her of stealing Mabaati.
According to Nabbanja, she has never stolen a single iron blade and is a clean woman, that’s why. His name is not among those who distributed money at the parliamentary committee where Mpuuga received a Sh500 million award for his services.
“Stop accusing me of stealing ‘Mabaati’, you’ve heard of Mpuuga and his colleagues who shared money among themselves, did you hear my name there, please stop stop,,Ssenyonyi and all of you Ugandans, stop calling me mabaati chief, i have never stolen Mabati and never took a single iron sheet to my home”-a visibly angry Nabanja furiously warned.
Nabbanja sits on the Parliamentary Committee as Head of Government Affairs in Parliament and apart from her position as Prime Minister, even in that particular position in which she is represented by the elderly General Moses Ali, the Parliamentary Committee allocates money for her office.
Aside from the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023 passed by Parliament and signed by President Museveni, the Karamoja Mabati scandal was initially one of the biggest stories of the year in the Prime Minister’s Office, where several ministers, including Nabbanja, oversaw thousands of iron plates for Karachuna in Karamoja.
Museveni ordered ministers to return the Mabati but Karamoja Minister Mary Goret Kitutu, Junior Finance Minister Amos Lugoloobi and Karamoja Minister Agnes Nandutu were arrested, sent to the cold doors of Luzira Prisons and are currently facing corruption charges.
