A faction of National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters from the Bushenyi region is advocating for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa’s promotion from the current rank of General to the prestigious rank of Field Marshal.

In a video shared by NBS Tv, clad in NRM-branded yellow shirts, the supporters argue that the President deserves this elevated rank due to Uganda’s transformative journey under his leadership.

Recalling Museveni’s historic entry into the bush with 27 guns, one supporter emphasized, “He should be accorded the title of Field Marshal because he has done the best for us, and more achievements are within reach.”

If their request is granted, President Museveni, known as Sabalwanyi, would become Uganda’s second president with the Field Marshal rank, following President Idi Amin Dada. As the Commander in Chief, Museveni holds the authority to promote officers, exemplified by the recent promotion of his son, Muhoozi, to Full General.

Curiously, the story delves into Museveni’s own promotion, which occurred on February 10th, 2004. The UPDF high command, chaired by Defense Minister Amama Mbabazi, declared Museveni a Full General, acknowledging his exceptional contributions to Uganda.

The press release highlighted Museveni’s role as the founder of NRA, leading it from a guerrilla force to a modern, formidable army securing Uganda’s sovereignty.

“The High Command sitting on the December 29 2003 chaired by the Minister of Defence Amama Mbabazi , decided to honor RO/001 Lt Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his outstanding contribution to Uganda, and UPDF before he retires from the army”- read part of the press release issued by the then Minister of Defense John Patrick Amama Mbabazi

“Museveni is the founder of NRA and has selflessly and steadfastly commanded the force from a small guerilla liberation army to a large, modern, conventional force ready to take on the challenge sovereignty and territorial integrity of Uganda”-Mbabazi added
