Speaker Anita Among Breaks Silence After Secretly Jetting Out Of The Country Hours After Making Anti Baganda Comments
Speaker Anita Annet Among has broken her silence following her controversial remarks on tribalism, which had previously sparked outrage in Uganda.
After leaving the country for the Forum of African Speakers and Presidents of Legislatures’ 2nd General Assembly in Accra, Ghana, Among expressed gratitude for her election as Vice Chairperson of the forum, emphasizing her commitment to unity and regional cooperation in addressing Africa’s challenges.
In her address at the assembly, Among highlighted the importance of collaboration among African nations to accelerate development and tackle pressing issues such as poverty, unemployment, political instability and climate change.
“Addressing Africa’s challenges requires united efforts and shared solutions,” she stated, urging leaders to focus on empowering citizens and unlocking the continent’s potential instead of relying on external assistance.
Her comments come in the wake of backlash from her earlier statements, where she appeared to make tribalistic remarks during a parliamentary debate on the coffee sector.
These comments had led to calls for her resignation and accusations of undermining national unity.
As Among returned to Uganda, her statements from the assembly reflect a strategic attempt to mend relations and reaffirm her commitment to collective progress within the continent.
The Speaker’s experience in Ghana may serve as a platform for addressing the criticisms she faced at home, as she seeks to navigate the complex political landscape while promoting the importance of unity in Africa’s development.
