The United States Department of State has today 30th May announced sanctions on Ugandan several politicians. Three of these including speaker Anita Among, Dr Mary Goreti Kitutu and Agnes Nandutu were earlier sanctioned by the United Kingdom last month.
In a statement released by the US department spokesperson Michael Miller, four of the sanctioned officials Anita Among, Amos Lugolobi, Agnes Nandutu and Goreti Kitutu are accused of diverting Karamoja iron sheets meant for the needy people for their own benefit.
While former Deputy CDF Lt Gen Peter Elwelu was sanctioned for gross human rights violation specifically emanating from the 2016 UPDF attack on Kasese (Rwenzululu) kingdom palace where several people were killed, hundreds of royal guards arrested including their king Charles Wesley Mumbere. Now sanctions on Minister Amos Lugolobi, Speaker Anita Among, Mary Goreti Kitutu have spilled to their spouses.
This means FUFA President Moses Hashim Magogo will now carry the same cross with his second wife Anita Among, Kitutu’s husband Michael George Kitutu and Lugolobi’s wife Evelyn Nakimera are all equally barred from stepping a feet in the United States.
“These public designations are made under Section 7031(c) of the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act, 2024 (Div. F, P.L. 118-47). The Department is also designating Among’s Spouse, Moses Magogo Hassim; Kitutu’s spouse, Michael George Kitutu; and Lugolobi’s spouse, Evelyn Nakimera; they also are generally ineligible for entry into the United States. The additional steps to impose visa restrictions on multiple other Ugandan individuals are being taken under Section 212 (a) (3) (C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act under the policy”-the statement further reads.
In a surprising turn of events on Wednesday, President Yoweri Museveni has directly accused the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Anita Annet Among, of providing false information regarding her ownership of a property in London.
The President’s stern communication was conveyed in an official letter dated May 23, 2024, addressed to Ms. Among. The letter, which has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, outlines President Museveni’s concerns about a property located at Flat 4, Silk House, 7 Waterden Road, London, E20 3AL, United Kingdom.
According to the President, contrary to Ms. Among’s previous statements, there is substantial evidence suggesting that she indeed owns the property in question.
At the instigation of the president’s letter naming the said house, Anita Among has this evening decided to open up and come clean on the allegations being thrown at her regarding ownership of property in London.
In a long post she made on her social media handles, Anita Among has refuted the claims indicating the said house the UK claims she owns is instead owned by another person as per the records in the UK land registration department.
“The alleged house plot, Flat 4, Silk house, 7 Waterden Road, London E20 3AL, United Kingdom, which they inform the President is own by myself, surely has an owner who is registered in their own system (the UK Government), and this owner as their own record, is not Anita Among”-says Anita Among.
The Speaker just like before attributes her troubles and woes to her spirited fight against homosexuality owing to the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023 which Bugiri Municipality legislator Asuman Basalira tabled in parliament and passed in unison by parliament in May 2023 and signed into law.
