Ssenyonyi Named As New LoP!! Dark Secrets On Why Mpuuga Was Sacked Leak
National Unity platform has named a new leader of opposition in parliament and other leaders in in the opposition cabinet s the first half of the term comes to an end at 2.5 years. The new changes have been announced by the NUP General Secretary David Lewis Rubongoya franked by the party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.I
n the new changes, Mathias Mpuuga who has been the Leader of Opposition since 2021 has been dropped and replaced by new entrant Nakawa west legislator Joel Ssenyonyi who has been leading the COSASE committee in parliament.Mpuuga the legislator for Nyendo-Mukungwe in Masaka city has been named commissioner of parliament replacing Hon Zaake Francis who has been moved to another opposition docket as Deputy opposition Chief Whip.
The other leaders named included Hon Muwanga Kivumbi who has been named the Chairperson Public Account Committee replacing Busiro legislator Medard Lubega Ssegona. Kivumbi will be deputized by Hon Namuga Gorret of Mawogola South. The new deputy chief whip who will double as minister of presidency and security is now Mityana Municipality legislator Hon Zaake Francis who is now replacing Jinja city women MP Manjeri Kyebakutika.
Manjiya county legislator John Baptist Nambeshe retains his position as the Chief Opposition Whip in parliament.The NRM is also set to name new leaders in parliament and the president will appoint them according to sources. He might also reshuffle his cabinet some time soon. Precedent was set years back by the FDC for a Leader of opposition to serve for only half term and not full term.
At the time, Kyagulanyi was torn between appointing Mpuuga and Hon John Baptist Nambeshe, the current party’s deputy President for the Eastern Region.Currently, tensions are still low at the Makerere – Kavule based party headquarters, with mixed feelings amongst the party foot soldiers who believe that Ssenyonyi is not a free person.
Ssenyonyi joined Parliament in 2021 after a spell of more than 10 years while in the media world, working with NTV Uganda and Power FM. He is a trained Lawyer. He currently serves as the Chairperson Committee on Statutory Bodies and State Enterprises.
