In a strong and hopeful interview on NTV’s Talk of the Nation show, aired on 17th May 2025, Mr. Calvin Echodu, who wants to become the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for Eastern Region, shared his clear goals. He said he wants to bring back life to the party, support young people, and bring real growth to Eastern Uganda.

Mr. Echodu began by praising the Party leaders for the big changes they made in the ongoing Party Structural Elections. He especially thanked the NRM National Chairman, H.E Yoweri Museveni, and the National Secretariat for starting a digital Membership and Voter Register. He also appreciated the NRM Electoral Commission for holding what he called a “very successful” grassroots election. He said that the way these elections were done shows that the party is growing in democracy. But what he said next is what really stood out.

His main message was that Party leaders need to reconnect with the people. Mr. Echodu spoke the truth, saying what many people have thought for a long time – that some leaders have become distant from the people they serve. He said he wants to fix that in Eastern Uganda. “I want to rebuild the trust between the Party and our people. We must go back to our roots,” he said. His message was simple but strong: leaders should be close to the people and responsible for their actions. Staying true to his belief in inclusion, Echodu said his way of leading is based on the idea that everyone’s voice is important.

Mr. Echodu also talked about the tough economic problems in the region he wants to lead. He pointed out that Eastern Uganda is still the poorest part of the country. Since he was born and raised in Tubur, Soroti District, Echodu understands the pain that poverty brings. He promised to make local development a top goal. He wants to connect the region with both national programs and international help. His plan is not just words—it’s about real steps and real change. He hopes to help the region grow and improve people’s lives.

He also talked about the importance of young people in the Party’s future. He said young people need proper support and clear chances to lead. He shared his plan which is based on four steps: finding, recruiting, training, and placing young people in real leadership roles. “Our young people are full of energy and ideas. What they lack is opportunity. I want to change that,” he said.

The interview showed that his campaign is focused on the people and real change. With goals like listening to local people, giving power to youth, including everyone, and developing the region, Echodu seems ready to bring new life to the NRM in Eastern Uganda. His message reached out to many young people who feel forgotten or left out by today’s politics. He is asking them to join him. He made it clear he won’t be the kind of leader who only listens to powerful people. “Everyone matters. Every voice counts. From village elders to market vendors—this party should work for all,” he said. With his way of leading, fresh energy, and care for everyone, Mr. Echodu brings something many think is missing in today’s NRM leadership.

In a brave moment, Echodu also admitted that while most of the Party’s elections have gone well, there were some wrong actions in a few places, which he said were less than 5% of the whole process. Still, he was quick to say the Party is ready and able to find and stop such problems.

Many politicians avoid talking about these issues—but not Echodu. His honesty makes him different. He is not afraid to speak the truth. Mr. Calvin Echodu is not just another politician. He listens and serves the people. His message is clear: it is time to reconnect with the people. It is time for fresh energy in NRM.
