This Is Scaring!! See What Happened To Nobert Mao The Moment He Became A Minister
Democratic Party president and Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Nobert Mao has revealed that he lost some of his freedom after becoming a minister.
Mao was appointed Minister by President Museveni despite him being from an opposition political party.Ever since he was appointed, DP members have been angry and unhappy with him.
They have been accusing Mao of selling off their political party to the ruling party NRM and its president Yoweri Museveni. When one becomes a minister they are given some opportunities. This also means they obviously lose some freedom because they are now big people.
According to Nobert Mao, he used to connect with his people on the ground often. However, at the moment he doesn’t do that like he used to do.He said that he has so much work to do because of his position but some people are not understanding it, especially those he leads in DP.
“When I became a minister, I lost some of my freedom. I haven’t been connecting with my people on ground because of the work I do. I am so busy and unfortunately, people don’t understand it,” He Said.
It should be noted that Nobert Mao refused to resign as the president of the Democratic Party. He said working with the government is the way to go.
In 1966, DP member of parliament and the leader of the Opposition, Basil Bataringaya crossed to UPC with five other members. Although he was an influential DP member, he was squabbling with his political party leader, Benedicto Kiwanuka. Dr Obote, the prime minister and leader of Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), said while receiving Bataringaya that he had sensed since 1959 that he would join UPC.
Bataringaya was appointed minister of Internal Affairs. Recently, Mao signed a cooperation agreement with President Museveni. Mao, much as he didn’t seek the approval of DP’s organs such as the National Executive Committee (NEC), he claimed that he had done it for the good of the country.
Mao, like Bataringaya, has not been on good terms with some DP members. In 2021, the party saw some of its members defect to the Robert Kyagulanyi-led National Unity Platform (NUP). Mao described the defectors in unsavoury terms, as people who had been carried away by a storm,.
To calm the political unrest and control the opposing voices in 1967, Bataringaya sponsored the draconian Detention Without Trial Act. This nasty law saw many political activists detained without trial.
