Till Death Separates Us!! Museveni Still Leading Uganda Pakalast – NRM Boss Confirms
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) formerly the National Resistance Army (NRA) came with president Museveni when he captured power in 1986 after launching a guerilla war that lasted for over 5 years in the jungles of Luwero leaving over 500,000 people dead.
Uganda would later be in a one party mode for over 20 years until in 2005 July when a referendum that brought back multi-party politics. However, over time multipartism seems to be just on paper but a reality like in other countries like neighboring Kenya.Opposition parties are suppressed any time, anywhere with the their activities only at te mercy of police to say YES or NOT. Their supporters are grabbed by men in uniform and those not in uniform and driven away by the famous drones.
Some lucky one’s return while gravely injured due to the torture they’re subjected to while others are in the drones and head for journeys of no return and their relatives have never and seems will never see them again. To add spice to the belief that multipartism or opposition doesn’t matter to president Museveni, legislators from the opposition wing had recently boycotted parliament for almost a month and were no show in plenary but parliamentary business was going on as usual and bills were passed.
A case in point the Ugandan parliament on Tuesday 14th passed the Petroleum Supply (Amendment) Act, 2023 granting the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) a monopoly on supplying petroleum products. The bill would have been opposed by the opposition because they’re warnings that the move could instead worsen the problem it is intended to cure. If they were in parliament but it cruised through un opposed and the president has since signed the bill into law.
Now in a mocking tone and attitude, there’s this trending video where the Deputy Secretary General Rosemary Namayanja is seen speaking to a gathering where she clearly says NRM has no plans of relinquishing power any time soon. But it’s a matter of fact that NRM is Museveni and Museveni is NRM, without Museveni NRM can breathe nor effectively do the usual politics that the likes of Dr Tanga Odoi normally do because the party is built around him. He has also banned standing against him on any position. He has ring fenced the position for party chairperson and presidential candidate for himself alone and no one dares to contest on any of the above to compete with him.
In the video, the deputy Secretary General Rosemary Namayanja who gives reference to the Chama Cha Mapenduzi (CCM) in Tanzania which is has been in power for over 50 years. She says CCM is soon making made 60 years in power but Ugandans are yapping over just 37 years that the NRM has been around. The unfortunate side is that even these top NRM bosses are not aware of the president’s plan for transition.
Some are yet to buy into the reality that they just sing songs of praise and worship for him but don’t know his real plans in regards to the life after him.Majority of these top NRM leaders normally water down and always drop Muhoozi from the matrix of presidency but going by the ways events are unfolding, Museveni isn’t considering his known colleagues like his brother Salim Saleh, his tight friend Amama Mbabazi but he’s rotating his eyes around his son Muhoozi Keinerugaba who has since started active politics with staging rallies despite the fact that he’s still a serving military officer who shouldn’t be engaging in politics.
Her statement only affirms government’s efforts to strangle the civic space and diminish chances of ousting President Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni whom the opposition accuse of using periodic elections to rubber stamp his long stay in power. These also accuse Museveni is snatching their victories in presidential elections.
Besigye did it four times and Bobi Wine also accused Museveni of snatching his win in the 2021 general elections. As usual Museveni recently hinted on his plans to contes again in 2026, he instead attributed this to a section of Ugandans who are forcing him to stand again, he has always started like this but appears on the ballot without fear or favor but with flavor.
Now with Bobi Wine joining hands with Dr Kiiza Besigye, Mugisha Muntu the question remains will the opposition take part in the forth coming elections since they all agree Museveni can’t be ousted through ballots organized by himself and presided over by an electoral commission chairman himself appointed.
