Top Story!! Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba Makes This Big Announcement, He Is What You Didn’t Know

Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces and Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), has announced plans to implement a leadership reshuffle within the organization. Although specific details about the planned changes remain undisclosed, Muhoozi confirmed that the reshuffle would impact both the PLU’s central committee and the organization as a whole.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Muhoozi declared, “In the next few days, I will announce changes in the Central Committee of PLU, and throughout the organisation. By virtue of being the founder, chairman, and author of that organisation.”
The PLU, which was launched in February of the previous year, originated as a rebranding of the MK Movement, a former pressure group that supported Muhoozi’s presidential ambitions. Over the past year, the organization has been actively establishing regional structures and appointing leaders across Uganda.
Despite earlier clarifications from Muhoozi that the PLU is a civic organization, his political involvement has continued to spark debate. Recently, he announced that he would not be running for the presidency in 2026 and urged PLU supporters to align with his father, President Museveni’s National Resistance Movement (NRM). “PLU is a civic organization, not a political party. I advise PLU members to join the NRM if they wish to run for Parliament. NRM is the political party that best aligns with our values,” Muhoozi stated last year.
His remarks have elicited mixed reactions, with some political analysts speculating that the reshuffle within the PLU could signify a strategic consolidation of power within the NRM. Some insiders believe this move might reflect Muhoozi’s broader strategy to assert control over the party ahead of Uganda’s 2026 elections. One source noted, “This isn’t a departure for PLU; it’s Muhoozi asserting control over the NRM. PLU’s influence is likely to reshape the party as Muhoozi aims to take charge.”
