In a bold and controversial statement, a Member of Parliament and Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Hon David Kabanda has openly accused President Yoweri Museveni of being the root cause of corruption in Uganda, calling for his resignation in favor of his son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The MP, who represents Kasambya County, has released a video accusing President Museveni of being the very originator of the corruption he claims to fight.

“Museveni is the creator of corruption and he can’t manage to fight it. He should leave the presidency and let Muhoozi take over since he is the one who started cracking down on the corrupt,” the MP stated in the video.

The Patriotic League of Uganda, led by Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has been gaining popularity and is seen by many as a strong political force.Gen Muhoozi, Museveni’s son, has been lauded for his proactive measures against corruption, which has earned him a reputation as a reformer.

President Museveni has recently reaffirmed his commitment to fighting corruption, praising the Ugandan Armed Forces, security agencies, and citizens for thwarting a planned demonstration he claims was backed by foreign entities with malicious intent.

Kabanda’s call for a leadership change has sparked significant discussion within political circles. The criticism highlights a growing sentiment among some Ugandans who feel that new leadership may be necessary to effectively address the nation’s corruption issues.

The NRM party and Presidency are yet to respond to the MP’s remarks. However, the President has promised to address the nation next week, where it is expected he will discuss corruption further.

In the meantime, the PLU and its supporters continue to advocate for Gen Muhoozi’s leadership, believing he is better suited to tackle Uganda’s corruption problem.
