Unveiled!! Besigye, Muntu Planning To Front Bobi Wine For 2026 Presidency – United Against Museveni
President Museveni has retained Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama as the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, along with Hajjat Aisha Lubega as the vice chairperson. One commissioner was retained, while four others were replaced.
The president nominated four new commissioners, set to be vetted by parliament next week. The opposition criticizes Museveni’s new commissioners, citing their affiliation with the NRM party. Notably, Robert Kasule Ssebunya, Stephen Tashobya, and Okello Anthony, former NRM MPs, raise concerns about their impartiality in organizing a fair election.
As the 2026 elections approach, President Museveni, Bobi Wine, and Nathan Nandala Mafabi declare their candidacy. Despite this, electoral reforms remain stagnant. They’re also other candidates who are normally sponsored by Museveni in proxy format just to spice up the game.Political parties are organizing to challenge Museveni’s 45-year grip on power.
A coalition named the Forum for Uganda National Democratic Alliance (FUNDA) emerges, bringing together various opposition factions, including NUP, FDC Katonga Faction, DP Block, UPC faction, and ANT.The coalition plans to launch soon, with Bobi Wine as the joint opposition bearer and Dr. Kizza Besigye as its patron. Regional vice presidents include Mathias Mpuuga, Gen Mugisha Muntu, Proscovia Salaam Musumba, and Betty Aol Ochan. Erias Lukwago is proposed as the Chairperson, Olala Otunu as the Secretary General, and Dr. Lulume Bayiga as the treasurer.
Further, Erias Lukwago will be the Chairperson of the Coalition, UPC’s Olala Otunu as the Secretary General while DP’s Dr Lulume Bayiga will be the treasurer. David Lewis Rubongoya is the proposed Deputy Treasurer while the new leader of opposition in parliament Joel Ssenyonyi will be coalition’s Secretary for mobilization.
Many times alliances and coalitions have been made but end up splitting due to infiltration by the regime crusaders and end up not achieving their intended purposes but only a conduit to get donor funding. From the Interparty Coalition in 2011 that fronted Besigye as the opposition joint candidate to the Democratic Alliance which was snatched away by Mbabazi who used money to buy off all the parties in it and now the newly formed coalition of FUNDA.
We are reliably informed that the FUNDA coalition is now set to convene it’s first press conference which will take place at Besigye’s Katonga road office. This will be attended by Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform, Mugisha Muntu’s Alliance for National Transformation and Uganda People’s Congress of Olala Otunu and Peter Walubiri.
The presser will happen on Tuesday and source have told this publication that the principals of the coalition are set to introduce it officially to Ugandans and their supporters. Museveni himself hasn’t confirmed his 2026 presidency bid.
If not infiltrated by money, intrigue, betrayal and hypocrisy, this new formation will give Museveni a run for his money since many of the people in it are good at mobilization especially Dr Kiiza Besigye.
