“We Shall Hunt Down All Those Who Stole Above 1 Billion From Poor Ugandans” Gen Muhoozi Declares As He Orders The Arrest Of Senior UPDF General Over Corruption

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has taken strong action in his fight against corruption within the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF). This week, he ordered the arrest of Brigadier General Cyrus Besigye Bekunda, the Joint Staff Chief of Engineering, along with other officers from the Engineers Brigade.
Their arrests follow serious allegations of financial mismanagement and corruption involving large sums of money intended for military projects.
In a public statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Gen Muhoozi condemned the accused officers and reaffirmed his commitment to integrity in the UPDF.
“Yesterday, I ordered the arrest of Brig Bekunda Besigye and other officers of the Engineers Brigade. They poisoned, contaminated, and desecrated a sacred principle we have always embraced in the UPDF—that we can be self-sufficient and efficient. They received money and misused it. Let their punishment serve as a lesson to others,” he stated.
Gen Muhoozi made it clear that this is only the beginning of a broader anti-corruption campaign targeting those who have stolen large amounts of public money.
“For those who stole one billion and above, we shall hunt you all down,” he declared. “We are coming for all those who misused taxpayers’ money.”
This bold action reflects Gen Muhoozi’s determination to clean up the military and hold senior officers accountable, regardless of their rank. His focus is on restoring discipline, transparency, and public trust in the UPDF.
The arrest of Brig Gen Bekunda signals a strong warning to others within the system: corruption will not be tolerated. As investigations continue, more individuals involved in financial wrongdoing may face justice.
This development is a significant step toward strengthening the professionalism and credibility of the UPDF, and many are watching to see how far the crackdown will go.
