The Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has advised Nyendo – Mukungwe MP, Mathias Mpuuga to step down from his role as parliamentary commissioner over allegations of corruption and abuse of office.

The party’s President, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, known as Bobi Wine, stood firm against the tide of corruption and abuse of power. Bobi Wine has advised the Nyendo-Mukungwe MP, Mathias Mpuuga, a figure tainted by allegations of malpractice to step down from his commissioner job after receiving shs shs Shs500 milion as ‘service award’.

It was a Wednesday, February 28th, 2024, when the party’s top brass gathered for an urgent meeting. Accusations flew like arrows, and amidst the fray, Mpuuga confessed to his misdeeds. Admitting to accepting a hefty sum of Shs500 million under the guise of a ‘service award’, he hung his head in remorse. In the wake of his confession, the party’s core values echoed loudly: Discipline, Reliability, Inclusiveness, Integrity, Patriotism, and Service.

Mpuuga’s actions stood in stark contradiction to these principles, tarnishing the party’s reputation and betraying the trust of its supporters.

In a statement issued via the party’s official channels, Bobi Wine delivered a clear message: Mpuuga’s resignation from his role as parliamentary commissioner was not just a suggestion but a moral imperative. The integrity oath, sworn by every party leader at the term’s inception, held weight, and Mpuuga’s transgression could not be ignored.

“On Wednesday 28th February 2024, the President convened an urgent meeting comprised of senior leaders of the party including all deputy presidents and some of our senior legislators. At the meeting, Rt Hon Mathias Mpuuga admitted that he indeed took part in this wrongdoing and apologized for the same. In light of this , he was strongly advised that the moral thing to do in the circumstances is to step down from his role as parliamentary commissioner.” The Statement Reads

“The nation will recall that the values of the National Unity Platform (NUP) are Discipline, Reliability, inclusiveness, integrity, patriotism and service. They also go contrary to the integrity Oath which every leader of the Party swore at the start of this term. We therefore ask our leaders at all levels to do self reflection and recommit themselves to these values and the Oath they took to shun and fight corruption in all it’s forms.” The Statement Added

As the nation watches with bated breath, Mpuuga faces a critical decision. Would he cling to power, sacrificing his integrity at the altar of greed? Or would he heed the call for accountability, stepping down to salvage what remained of his honor? The echoes of that fateful meeting reverberated far beyond the walls of the party headquarters, leaving a lasting imprint on the political landscape.

For Bobi Wine and the National Unity Platform, the battle against corruption rages on, a testament to their unwavering commitment to justice and integrity.
