Lango historicals, including NRM party supporters, have urgently petitioned President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, outlining four key demands in a letter dated December 8, 2023. Their primary request is the endorsement of President Museveni as the 2026 presidential candidate, expressing satisfaction with his leadership.

In a letter dated December 8, 2023, addressed to the office of His Excellency (a copy of which The Kampala Eye has also obtained), their top agenda and demand is the endorsement of President Museveni as the presidential candidate for the 2026 general elections.

The four-page letter, seen by The Kampala, reads on page three, pointing out, “You should contest again as the president of the Republic because we, the people of Lango, have just begun feeling the test of your brilliant leadership.”

The historicals also seek the construction of the long-overdue Lango palace to boost tourism and create jobs. Another priority is the construction of the Akii-Bua stadium, reflecting the region’s demand. Addressing road carnage in Northern Uganda, they appeal for financial support to UPAPA (Uganda Passengers and Pedestrians Association).Additionally, they request President Museveni’s assistance for the impoverished family of the late Field Marshal John Gideon Okello in Okut, Aloi parish, Alebtong district.

The historicals seek support, including iron sheets, cement, and financial aid, emphasizing their positive contribution to NRM ideology and development.

Lastly, the historicals quoted, “We, therefore, request you to find it in your heart as the National Chairman of the mighty NRM Party and President of the Republic of Uganda to provide support in terms of iron sheets, cement, and financial assistance to the historical men and women in the Lango sub-region because they were active and positive towards NRM ideology and development in the field.”

The letter, signed by Ameto Patrick and Bernard Anyeko Masanga, underscores their commitment to the NRM party. Ameto Patrick expressed hope that the President would engage with Lango historicals to address their concerns. Anyeko Masanga, delivering the letter in Lira City, affirmed President Museveni’s positive leadership direction.
